If you are thinking travel to Amsterdam and visit the city by car, get the idea out of your head. Parking in the center of Amsterdam is almost impossible and if you are lucky to find a place, it is very expensive. To give you an idea: the blue zone costs € 5 an hour and is paid from 7am to 12pm. However, you plan to make a route by car through the Netherlands stopping in the capital, here we will explain where to park in Amsterdam.
During the getaway we did to Flanders, we decided one day to go see the Keukenhof gardens and spend the afternoon in Amsterdam. How we knew that parking in the city of canals would be complicated, we looked for information with alternatives. Luckily we discovered the Park + Ride, a system that allows us to park on the outskirts of Amsterdam and visit the city at a very low price.
On the A10 and A2 motorways, on the outskirts of Amsterdam, there are seven car parks that allow you to park your car between 24 and 96 hours at a cost of between € 1 - € 8 per day. As they are not exclusive parking of the P + R, to access this promotion it is necessary that you enter with the car through the entrance indicated with Park + Ride or if there is not, when accessing the parking press the P + R button.
Once inside the car park, you have to go to the ticket office (Ticket machine) and there buy public transport tickets to go to the city center. This service is designed so that tourists can visit Amsterdam without the car, so you need to buy the transport ticket right there. When buying the transport ticket, you will be asked to enter the parking card first. Remember to pick it up before leaving because you will need it when you return to pay for parking and take out the car.
Once the card has been introduced, it will give you the option to buy the public transport ticket. When buying the ticket you have to do it for all the occupants of the car. The price for up to two people is € 5 (in total), for three people € 5.90, for four people € 6.80 and for five € 7.70. This ticket gives you a round trip and another one back to Amsterdam. If you want to make more trips you will need to spend another transport card in between. It is very important that the second trip of the card you use it when going to pick up the car in the car park and keep in mind that since you sign out of the transport and go to pay for the car park, it cannot take more than 60 minutes.
